<p><i>Schadenfreude</i> is an ingroup’s expression of pleasure or satisfaction at the misfortune of an outgroup. Recent political events in Kenya have challenged conventional understanding of <i>schadenfreude</i> as a morally offensive emotion. Social media has brought to the surface previously unexpressed intergroup <i>schadenfreude</i>. This opinion article provides a deeper psychological exploration of the dynamics underlying existing intergroup s<i>chadenfreude</i> and its likely future directions.</p>
