<p>Pit and fissure sealing (PFS) is the preventive sealing of caries-susceptible occlusal sites with the aim of preventing caries initiation or arresting carious lesions. The main aim of this publication is to summarise the most relevant results from the recently completed update of the S3 guideline „Pit and fissure sealing“. The update of the S3 guideline was realised in accordance with the AWMF („Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Wissenschaftlichen Medizinischen Fachgesellschaften e. V.“) regulations. PICOS-based search strategies were established for the systematic search of the literature based on the agreed key questions. Relevant literature databases (PubMed/Medline and Embase) were searched for the period from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2023. Both original publications and systematic reviews were included in the search. As a result, the S3 guideline was published in an updated form (AMWF registration number 083-002). It contains 7 consensus-based (41.2%) and 10 evidence-based recommendations (58.8%). The recommendations consider diagnostic issues, indications and clinical aspects of PFS. With this publication, the S3 guideline is once again available to all user groups.</p>
