<p>Caries is a major global health problem, but the focus has clearly shifted from restorative treatment to preventive, noninvasive and minimally invasive approaches. The transition from restorative to regenerative dentistry reflects the current trend in medical development. One promising approach is biomimetic remineralisation, which mimics the natural mineralisation process for caries treatment. The self-assembling peptide P11-4 has been shown to be a promising biomaterial for this purpose. This peptide supports the regeneration of dental hard tissue by forming a protein matrix within the initial carious lesions, thereby promoting natural remineralisation. This article discusses the principles of its mechanism of action, methods of application, benefits, potential limitations and scientific evidence for its use based on the current literature.</p>
