Verhungern und Verdursten am Lebensende
摘要
Starvation and dehydration at the end of life are controversial topics in various contexts, both within the medical community and among patients and their relatives and friends. This paper aims to raise awareness of an issue for which treatment teams and relatives and friends are still poorly trained and which is often insufficiently addressed in clinical practice. On the one hand, this leads to the mistreatment of patients with an unnecessarily increased symptom burden during the dying process and, on the other hand, it is also a source of conflict within the treating teams and with and between relatives and loved ones.
