Research progress of tumor deposition in colorectal cancer
摘要
Tumor deposits (TDs) are discontinuous tumor spread in the mesocolon/mesorectum which is found in approximately 20–25% of colorectal cancer (CRC). Current research has observed that tumor deposits (TDs) have a negative impact on the prognosis and distant metastasis of CRC. However, there is still controversy regarding the definition and understanding of TDs, and the prognostic information of TDs based on the current TNM staging system has not been fully utilized. Researchers have made respective attempts to improve the current staging system; however, there is currently no consensus on the matter. This review integrates current literature on the association between TDs and prognosis of CRC. It explores the impact of TDs on the prognosis and metastasis of CRC, as well as feasible approaches to modify the current TNM staging system based on TDs. The aim of this review is to provide a reference for further understanding the prognostic significance of TDs in CRC and determining the optimal modification of the TNM staging system.
