In vitro Anti-Cancerous Activity of Dioscorea oppositifolia Extract Against Human Breast Cancer Cell Line

Natural goods are an abundant supply of commercial products for the pharmaceutical and other sectors. Most commercial drugs obtained from natural products require synthetic efforts to enable cost-effective access to the bulk material. The purpose of this paper is to highlight problems with the lead-to-product route and demonstrate how contemporary natural product chemistry has successfully solved them. Dioscorea oppositifolia is a medicinal plant that is used to reduce the complications related to menopause and to reduce obesity. The methanol extract of Dioscorea oppositifolia possesses significant phytochemical constituents and therefore has potent antioxidant and anticancer activity. It also revealed the existence of phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, and so on. The cytotoxic action of the extract was studied toward the MCF-7 cell line and it was found that the % of cytotoxicity was directly proportional to the extract concentration. Therefore, our results concluded that the Dioscorea oppositifolia has potent anticancer activity.
