Tourism development and ecological impact assessment based on fuzzy TOPSIS method

The growth of tourism is essential for economic development and the dissemination of cultural ideas; however, it also creates significant environmental problems that necessitate thorough remedial action. This paper offers a combined decision-making system utilizing the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution “Fuzzy TOPSIS”. This system aims to analyze the environmental impacts resulting from tourist activity. The model incorporates linguistic elements to assess the effects on infrastructure, the socioeconomic system, and the environment. Fuzzy TOPSIS enables the effective capture of natural ambiguity in ecological assessments, and the model considers expert views under conditions of uncertainty. Research on case studies from tourist sites under development helps validate this approach, which exposes intricate trade-offs between the goals of development and environmental conservation. These results demonstrate that the Fuzzy TOPSIS approach can facilitate sustainable planning by identifying optimal growth trajectories that minimize ecological impact. Allowing for the identification of the best development paths would help in this regard. One such justification is that the process enables one to identify the most efficient routes for development. This approach gives planners and legislators a tool that is both scalable and flexible. It allows them to reconcile tourism’s growth with the preservation of environmental integrity.
