Comparative reliability analysis of punching shear design for edge column-flat slab connections without shear reinforcement
摘要
The reliable design of flat slabs against punching shear failure is crucial due to the potentially catastrophic and brittle nature of such failures. This paper studies the reliability of ACI-318-19, Eurocode 2 (EC-2), and Russian Code SP-63.13330 punching shear design calculations for edge column-flat slab connections without shear reinforcement. Reliability indices (β) for 63 experimental test samples were calculated using probabilistic analysis and Monte Carlo simulation. The analysis includes slab thickness, strength of concrete, and load eccentricity. Results indicate that the ACI-318-19 formula generally gives lower reliability indices compared to EC-2 and SP-63.13330 formulas. For all codes, reliability indices decreased as the variable loading ratio increased. Eurocode 2 formula gave the most stable reliability under varying different parameters, while the ACI-318 and SP-63.13330 formulas were more sensitive to variation in slab thickness and concrete strength. These findings suggest that the EC-2 formula provides safer and more uniform safety margins in punching shear design of edge columns, while the three codes do require serious consideration of load eccentricity effects to ensure adequate structural safety. The article highlights the importance of reliability-based calibration in establishing and updating design provisions for punching shear.
