<p>The research review concluded that over the past two decades, important research has been published regarding aluminum oxide coating over aluminum, driven by their remarkable properties such as corrosion resistance, thermal stability, surface protection, environmental considerations, and life improvement of aluminum alloys. Here, a structure review of aluminum oxide coating over aluminum alloy has been classified into four categories, including the number of papers published annually, the prevalence of research amongst various journals, the prevalence of research among various countries, categorization based on techniques implied to improve electrochemical performance, the scholar’s contribution towards research, and the electrochemical performance of the developed alumina coating over aluminum. In the past five years, a significant amount of research has been conducted on alumina coatings over aluminum for their corrosion resistance behaviour. Most of the article focuses on the development of alumina oxide coatings over different metals with different techniques. There is a need for a full evaluation to substantiate a detailed review to support the extent of research to date, statistically, and to highlight general conclusions that are highlighted among these studies. This study addresses a vacuum in the literature by assisting researchers and practitioners in understanding the diversity and drawing a roadmap for the development of different techniques of alumina coating over aluminum. The proposed future research agenda may aid practitioners and academics in positioning their research work.</p>
