Staff preparedness for green supply chain management practice through awareness and attitudes
摘要
Hospitals contribute significantly to environmental pollution and resource consumption. This highlights the need for green supply chain management in sustainable healthcare operations. This study examines how awareness and attitudes, organisational support, and perceived barriers influence green supply chain management practices in Bangladeshi hospitals. The study integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior, Social Cognitive Theory, and the Resource-Based View. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted among 452 hospital employees from public and private hospitals in Bangladesh. Data were analysed using SmartPLS 4 and partial least squares structural equation modelling. The findings show that awareness and attitudes positively influence both organisational support and green supply chain management practices. Organisational support has the strongest direct effect on green supply chain management. It also significantly mediates the relationship between awareness and sustainable behaviour. However, the moderating effect of perceived barriers was not statistically significant. The findings suggest that environmental awareness alone is insufficient for effective sustainability implementation. Institutional support, training, and organisational resources are also necessary. This study contributes to healthcare sustainability literature by integrating behavioural and organisational perspectives into a single framework. Hospital managers and policymakers should focus on support systems, sustainability training, and environmental strategies to improve healthcare in developing countries.
