Exploring factors influencing the adoption of the Khok Nong Na model for sustainable agriculture in Northeast Thailand

This study examines the drivers of adoption of the Khok Nong Na Model (KNNM), an integrated farming approach that promotes sustainable development and enhances farmers’ resilience to climatic variability, with a specific focus on Yasothon Province in Northeast Thailand. Using a survey sample of 134 farmers, determined based on the Krejcie and Morgan formula and selected via simple random sampling, this study examines socio-demographic factors, including age, education, income level, and farm size, as well as key drivers such as access to training and prior experience with sustainable practices. Employing binary logistic regression, the analysis identifies the most significant predictors of KNNM adoption. Results reveal that access to training and prior engagement in sustainable practices are critical in increasing the likelihood of KNNM adoption. Additionally, logistic regression analysis highlights education and financial stability as significant predictors, indicating that structural factors have a statistically significant influence on adoption decisions. Beyond economic and ecological drivers, the study highlights the importance of social factors, particularly community-led knowledge sharing, as a key driver of KNNM adoption. Policy recommendations include a focus on targeted educational initiatives and financial support mechanisms to promote widespread adoption of the KNNM. The community-oriented and integrated nature of the model demonstrates alignment with Thailand’s agroecological contexts, positioning it as a viable framework for sustainable agriculture.
