<p>The rapid urbanization of global environments poses unique challenges and opportunities for sustainable development. Amidst this, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies play a crucial role in enabling smarter cities. To this effect, the present work explores the integration of IoT technologies in smart cities and their impact on achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a combined bibliometric and thematic analysis from 2013 to 2024, this study maps the evolution of research within the field, identifying key publication trends, dominant themes, and technological advancements. The research focuses on how IoT-enabled smart cities contribute to sustainable urban practices, particularly in energy efficiency, resource management, and infrastructure optimization. Findings indicate a significant growth in publications, reflecting increasing global research interest. The analysis demonstrates that IoT plays a very crucial role in enhancing city operations, improving urban living quality, and advancing sustainability outcomes. Specifically, the study highlights its contributions to resource optimization, waste management efficiency, and energy conservation within urban systems. The findings further highlight the convergence of IoT-driven smart city initiatives with global sustainability priorities, providing insight into how technological interventions can contribute to achieving the SDGs.</p>
