Lived Experiences of Domestic Violence Survivors in Bangladesh: A Socio-Cultural Examination
摘要
This study explores the experiences of domestic violence victims in Bangladesh, highlighting that such violence arises from power imbalances and cultural practices. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with victims. Contributing factors include socio-cultural norms of domestic violence against women, questioning a husband’s actions, dowry demands, extramarital affairs, substance abuse, and economic strain, resulting in physical and psychological abuse. Victims face victim-blaming, leading to isolation and discouragement from seeking help. The study highlights the inadequacies of support services and women’s limited access to those services. It recommends improving policy and increasing accountability within law enforcement agencies.
