Assessing the impact of mobile money on business growth and competitiveness of micro-small and medium-size enterprises in Cameroon
摘要
Mobile money helps promote financial inclusion and business growth in developing economies like Cameroon. Despite its significant potential, the effects of mobile money on micro and small businesses in Cameroon remain underexplored. This study examines how mobile money influences the growth and competitiveness of these enterprises. Researchers collected primary data using questionnaires given to 60 micro, small, and medium-size enterprises (MSMEs) selected by stratified random sampling. Multiple linear regression showed that mobile money adoption had a negative but statistically insignificant impact on business growth for micro and small enterprises. In contrast, industry experience was the most significant driver of growth, with each additional year or unit of experience resulting in a 0.309-unit increase in business growth. Firm size contributed a smaller positive effect of 0.114 units per unit increase in size. These findings highlight that strengthening industry experience through targeted training and development should be a policy priority to foster business growth among micro and small size enterprises in Cameroon.
