摘要

Savings groups (SGs) are informal financial organizations that serve as short-term cash management tools for households and are supported by many actors in social program interventions. This study aims to explore definitions, theories, and methods, as well as drivers and future research gaps. We conducted a comprehensive review of the SGs’ survival and synthesized the literature to answer our research questions. Our findings indicate that most articles examined it as a change in group rules, activities, and sustainability. At the same time, the minority defined it as a shift in financial indicators such as savings per member, returns, and fund utilization. Others viewed it as a shift in financial resilience and linkages, income sources, and digital technology. Additionally, SG best practices, models, and economic and market factors are key factors of SG survival, with a few studies identifying climate change, behavioral factors, and gender considerations as the main precursors. The review included conclusions and implications.
