Beyond Protectionism: How Smart Tariffs Reshape Global FDI Flows–A Meta-Analysis
摘要
The meta-analysis examines the relationship between tariffs and global foreign direct investment (FDI) flows in developed and developing economies. The study employs a systematic meta-analytic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). A systematic search of electronic databases yielded 18 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. Effect sizes were pooled using random-effects models and R software. The trade policy rate was applied to analyse moderation between tariffs and global FDI flows. Publication bias was tested using funnel plots, Egger’s regression, and trim and fill. Findings show that for countries seeking FDI growth, it is crucial to prioritize tariff rationalization and reduction. These findings strengthen confidence in the validity of the results and their implications for theory and practice.
