Perceived discrimination and gender equality among university students: a relationship analysis
摘要
The goal of this study is to predict how university students perceive discrimination based on factors such as gender equality, gender, race, and field of study. The study involved 555 students in a relational descriptive research design. Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire created by the researchers, the Gender Equality Scale (GES), and the Students’ Perception of Discrimination Scale. Data analysis was carried out using the SPSS 26.0 statistical software. The study found that race and gender significantly predicted perceptions of discrimination. It noted that male students had more negative perceptions of discrimination compared to female students, and foreign students had higher perceptions of discrimination compared to Turkish students. Additionally, the results indicated that as perception of gender equality increased, perception of discrimination decreased. The study highlighted the particularly high perceptions of discrimination among male students of Black race. It emphasized the need for future research to further explore this phenomenon within communities of varying socio-cultural backgrounds and races.
