摘要
Memorial stones are the part of social, spiritual and philosophical memory of society. As the earlier research in the world mainly discusses hero memorial stones, but lacks in studies pertaining to memorial stones of individuals other than heroes. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to provide in-depth knowledge on vernacular memorial stones, i.e. Murra, which are associated with individuals other than heroes. This research aims at exploring the significance of these memorial stones in shaping society and its’ social memory and for this the researchers conducted an extensive field visits, ethnographic interviews, photographic documentation, and phenomenological analysis. Therefore, based on these studies we are trying to give Indian model of place and social memory because the Murra’s are situated within a multifaceted framework of anthropology, archaeology, history, and ecology. The study of Murra’s highlights a nexus of collective memory, kinship, and sacred geography based on phenomenology, semiotic, and postcolonial approaches which has been thoroughly discussed in this research.
