<p>This paper examines Turkey’s strategic engagement in the Horn of Africa and its impact on the Ethiopian security landscape. To this end, this study uses a case study research design and a qualitative research approach that combines primary and secondary data, which are analysed thematically. The findings of the study show that Ankara’s growing presence in the Horn of Africa offers opportunities for Ethiopia in the areas of economic development, counter-piracy, counter-terrorism and regional stability. The findings also show that Ankara has played an important role in promoting regional peace, stability and humanitarian diplomacy through its active mediation and conflict resolution to defuse conflicts and create an environment conducive to stability. Despite its significant contributions to the Horn of Africa, Turkey’s growing presence in the region does not mean that the region is completely safe from competition. Turkey’s growing presence in the Horn of Africa faces significant challenges due to the competing interests of Middle Eastern countries, particularly the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran. These competing alliances have the potential to complicate Ethiopia’s security environment and undermine joint efforts for peace and development in the region. Therefore, Ethiopia needs a rational and assertive foreign policy and collective security to mitigate the risks of competition with rival Middle Eastern powers, which is essential for lasting peace and stability in the region.</p>
