<p>As travellers move across different jurisdictions and their data are extensively utilized, privacy protection has become even more paramount in the tourism industry. The aim of this study is to examine how data protection, data security, data breach prevention and data policies affect international tourists’ destination referral intentions. The study was grounded on the optimism and pessimism theory utilizing the convenience sampling method through a self-reporting questionnaire to collect primary data from 426 international tourists. The results of the hypotheses showed that data protection, data breach prevention, data policy are significant predictors of destination referral from international tourists’ perspective. However, the data security was not a significant predictor of destination referral in context. The study sheds light on the optimism and pessimism theory, from the quantitative findings that data protection, data breach prevention, data policy are optimistic factors that influenced destination referral.</p>
