This study revisits Ibn Khaldun’s climatic framework, drawing from <i>The Muqaddimah</i> to explore the temperate, intemperate, and intermediate zones, linking his insights to contemporary urban sustainability. Through the case examples of Stockholm, Dubai, and Phoenix, the paper examines how governance models either align with or defy environmental realities. While Stockholm integrates sustainability within its climatic conditions, Dubai and Phoenix rely on high-energy interventions, raising concerns about long-term resilience. Supported by scholarly research, the findings suggest that sustainability is not merely an engineering challenge but a civilizational imperative, demanding a balance between ambition and restraint, innovation and justice. Ibn Khaldun’s insights offer a historically grounded alternative to technocratic models, providing a multidimensional framework for fostering resilient, equitable, and sustainable cities in an era of climate change and rapid urbanization.</p>
