<p>This research paper looks into the scientific legacy of the astronomical observatory of the University of Kerala spread over the last two centuries. In the first 100&#xa0;years of its existence as a scientific institution of a princely state, the observatory’s contributions benefited the global scientific community and resulted in acclaimed publications. After a century of its incarnation, the observatory underwent a series of ownership changes, resulting in changes in its visionary course. It became a part of the University of Kerala in 1976, where today’s observatory serves as an amateur center for popularizing astronomy. The growing city has left the observatory amidst a plethora of challenges, and it continues to strive to be a beacon for research and learning in astronomy and astrophysics on the southern peninsula of India.</p>
