<p>The Eastern Himalayas, rich in tropical forests, harbor a wide array of medicinal herbs known for their therapeutic potential. These herbs yield bioactive compounds that serve as alternatives to synthetic pharmaceuticals, offering antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Despite their historical use in traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), their application in modern biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries remains limited. This systematic review examines the medicinal properties of herbs, highlighting their secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and glycosides, which contribute to their diverse biological activities. The review explores the mechanism of action of these compounds, herb-drug interactions, and their applications in treating various diseases. It also discusses the integration of medicinal herbs into modern therapeutic practices, such as herbal supplements and complementary therapies, and the growing demand for plant-based products in healthcare. Furthermore, the review addresses the safety concerns, regulatory frameworks, and ethical considerations surrounding the use of medicinal herbs. By bridging traditional knowledge with contemporary advancements, this paper aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role medicinal herbs can play in improving health and wellness, while also highlighting areas for future research and development in herbal medicine and biotechnology.</p>
