<p>The genus <i>Artemisia</i>, comprising over 600 taxa, includes numerous species of significant economic importance due to their aromatic and medicinal properties. The characteristic strong bitter taste of <i>Artemisia</i> species is primarily attributed to the presence of bioactive compounds such as terpenoids and sesquiterpene lactones. Globally, various <i>Artemisia</i> species are extensively used in traditional medicinal systems. In the Indian Himalayan region, particularly in Uttarakhand, thirteen species of this genus are traditionally employed in treating a wide range of ailments. This review aims to summarize and synthesize published literature from various sources on the distribution, ethnopharmacology, and traditional medicinal applications of the genus <i>Artemisia</i>, with a special focus on species found in the Uttarakhand Himalaya. Additionally, this review incorporates historical insights to give an in-depth overview of the genus. The species utilized in Uttarakhand and their ethnomedicinal uses are systematically tabulated in this article.</p>
