<p>Ophidism is a health concern in Latin America rural areas due to the severe effects of snake venoms, being fatal in extreme cases. Phytochemical research has uncovered a wide array of metabolites/extracts with venom-neutralizing (alexiteric) properties, including <i>Baccharis genistelloides</i> subsp. <i>crispa</i> (Spreng.) Joch.Müll., Asteraceae, for its terpenoid-based components. Although the genus <i>Baccharis</i> is ethnomedicinally relevant, widely distributed, and phytochemically diverse, it is notable that no other species belonging to this genus has been extensively studied for its alexiteric potential. In this study, we evaluated 49 volatile and non-volatile extracts from 14 <i>Baccharis</i> spp. for their <i>in vitro</i> alexiteric activity against <i>Bothrops diporus</i> venom. Using a bio-guided 1D-SDS-PAGE approach, three promising species (<i>B. articulata</i>, <i>B. dracunculifolia</i>, <i>B. punctulata</i>) were identified. Extracts from these species were further subjected to <i>in vitro</i> assays, including proteolysis inhibition, hemolysis suppression, and coagulation interference. Additionally, phytochemical analyses were conducted evaluating the volatile composition and DPPH antiradical activity for the named three most bioactive species, while TLC profiles and total phenolic content were analyzed for the more relevant one (<i>B. articulata</i>).</p> Graphical Abstract <p></p>
