<p>The present study provides pollution monitoring methods using heavy metal concentrations in recent corals at polluted (Hurghada, Safaga, and Quseir) and unpolluted (Ras Mohamed) areas along the Red Sea coast, and by investigating heavy metal concentrations in recent and Pleistocene corals. The average concentration of Fe (~ 75.6 μg/g), Cu (~ 4.48 μg/g), Zn (~ 7.3 μg/g), Pb (~ 9.64 μg/g), Ni (~ 6.15 μg/g), Cd (~ 1.39 μg/g), and Co (~ 4.36 μg/g) of recent corals at Hurghada, Safaga, and Quseir areas show high enrichment compared with Fe (67.36 μg/g), Cu (2.27 μg/g), Zn (2.14 μg/g), Pb (7.05 μg/g), Ni (3.19 μg/g), Cd (1. 18 μg/g), and Co (1.87 μg/g) of recent corals at Ras Mohamed area. The measured heavy metal concentrations are higher than those in other worldwide areas such as the Red Sea coast (Saudi Arabia), Gulf of Aqaba (Jordan), the Indian Gulf of Mannar, the Panama coast, and Australia. Results of this work indicate that <i>P</i>. <i>compressa</i>, <i>P</i>. <i>cylindrica</i>, <i>F</i>. <i>fungites</i>, <i>G</i>. <i>fascicularis</i>, and <i>P</i>. <i>damicornis</i> are heavy metal pollution biomonitors. Despite heavy metal contamination, the studied recent corals were clear of any deformation or abnormal growth. Tourist activities, antifouling paint, oil spills, and sewage are possible sources for heavy metal pollution in the studied areas.</p>
