<p>Boron nitride (BN) is an important material in high-performance non-oxide ceramics. It has a special structure and very good physical and chemical properties. Because of its high thermal stability, chemical inertness, electrical insulation, and biocompatibility, BN is especially useful in areas like aerospace, biomedicine, and optoelectronics. This paper first describes the basic features of BN crystal structures. Then, it introduces several common ways to make BN, such as precursor methods, molten salt methods, and chemical vapor deposition. The paper also compares these methods in terms of product purity, crystallinity, shape control, and potential for industrial use. Next, the paper looks at how BN is used in different fields, including composite materials, biomedical materials, flame-retardant coatings, optoelectronic devices, and solid lubrication. Moreover, the possible future challenges and opportunities in the synthesis and applications of BN are forecasted as well.</p>
