Development of a continuous fabrication process for large-scale reaction bonded SiC filter tube by a continuous Si melt infiltration
摘要
The large-scale porous RBSC filter tube with the length of 1500 mm was successfully fabricated by the continuous reaction bonding process using a continuous Si melt infiltration without any destruction phenomenon. The fabricated porous RBSC filter tube exhibited the homogeneous microstructure and strength throughout the entire fabricated filter tube. Flexural strengths and O-ring strengths of porous RBSC fabricated using SiC-C preforms with various compositions by a continuous reaction bonding process were above 40 MPa and 30 MPa, respectively. The high temperature flexural strength of porous RBSC at 1000 °C was slightly decreased. The flexural strength of the quenched porous RBSC gradually decreased with rising the quenching temperature. The flexural strength of quenched porous RBSC was moderately maintained above 40% of the flexural strength of unquenched porous RBSC even after quenching from 1000 °C.
