The tibial plateau, supported by a complex network of intra- and extra-articular soft tissue stabilizers, presents significant challenges for the treating team that are further exacerbated by the anatomically demanding location. With a steadily rising incidence—particularly in high-energy trauma and older patient populations—tibial plateau fractures (TPF) are gaining clinical importance. Concomitant injuries to the capsuloligamentous structures and menisci are frequently underdiagnosed or overlooked in the context of TPF. A thorough biomechanical understanding of injury mechanisms combined with judicious use of advanced imaging modalities—especially magnetic resonance imaging—enables reliable and nuanced diagnosis of both osseous and ligamentous injuries involving the tibial plateau and its surrounding structures.
