Healthcare Students’ and Professionals’ Perceptions on Care and Education in End-of-Life and Family Support

Caring for terminal patients and their families poses significant challenges for healthcare professionals and students. This study explored their perceptions of death and end-of-life care, identified educational gaps, and aimed to develop a training program to improve communication and emotional management. Using an exploratory qualitative design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants, and data were analyzed thematically via IRAMUTEQ software.
Findings revealed key limitations in end-of-life care, including insufficient training, resource constraints, communication barriers, and difficultie managing emotions, all of which affect the quality of care and life for patients and families. Participants emphasized the need for improved communication and emotional regulation skills to better support dying patients and their loved ones. These insights highlight the critical needfor targeted educational programs to address these gaps, equipping healthcare professionals and students with the skills to provide compassionate, effective end-of-life care.
