<p>Network theory has gained significant relevance in the field of psychopathology, reflected in the growing number of studies in recent years. This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the key guidelines in this area, serving as a resource for researchers and mental health professionals to both understand current literature and develop their own research. Focusing on methodologies involving exploratory networks with cross-sectional data, we emphasize the development and interpretation of research methodologies within the context of network theory applied to psychopathology. We review and synthesize the main theoretical foundations of this emerging approach and explore the unique methodological challenges and considerations pertinent to studies in this domain. Additionally, the article offers a didactic overview of the primary analyses and graphical representations commonly used in exploratory and cross-sectional studies. Finally, we critically discuss ongoing debates regarding the future directions of this field, specifically addressing unresolved issues related to theoretical foundations and the replicability of scientific findings.</p>
