摘要

The Tinjdad region in southeastern Morocco has remarkable geotourism potential, characterized by unique landscapes and outstanding geosites that attract visitors each year. Nevertheless, the number of tourists remains limited due to the lack of effective promotion, value-enhancement strategies, and heritage mediation mechanisms. This is further compounded by the lack of legal frameworks to protect these assets. Consequently, this study presents a comprehensive inventory and rigorous assessment of nine key geosites using the geosite assessment model, an innovative and structured methodology. The model facilitates the identification of each site’s strengths and challenges, particularly in conservation and sustainable tourism development. It also serves as a foundation for proposing customized recommendations to ensure the preservation and sustainable promotion of these sites. The evaluation revealed high scientific and educational values across all inventoried geosites. However, these areas are vulnerable to various forms of natural and anthropogenic degradation, which jeopardize their long-term integrity. To enhance the functionality and tourism-related value of these geosites and unlock their geotourism potential, it is essential to implement strategies that improve infrastructure, enhance accessibility, and implement a targeted promotional strategy. A sustainable management approach, one that actively involves local communities and relevant authorities, can foster regional tourism development while improving socio-economic conditions and safeguarding Tinjdad’s unique natural heritage for future generations.
