Role of Rebooting in PLC Machines Using Inspection Facility

In daily life, automatic machines play an important role to automate the process in industries. These automatic machines are controlled by programmable logic controller. Generally, it is a new modeling mechanism that combines the rebooting process with the existing cold standby system. It acts as the brain of the machine that receives signals from input sensor and generates the output signal to control the whole system. In the present paper, inspection, and reboot facilities are used to enhance the reliability and availability of the machine by reducing downtime. Here, the whole system has two programmable logic controller machines such as first operative and the second cold standby. The operative machine may fail directly, and sometimes, another machine may malfunction due to prolonged inactivity or any other reason. An expert technician visits the system when required and performs two activities such as inspection and repairs. Limited refreshments are offered to the technician when required. Generally, rebooting process provides the facility to restart the failed unit before switching to cold standby machine. Periodic inspection threw light on the PLC machine's working condition, and the technician observed that the operative machine is failed in safe mode and compatible for repair, or the operative machine failed in unsafe mode and not compatible for repair. Then first use the reboot concept that transforms the failed machine from unsafe mode to safe mode, and after that it is compatible for repair, and if the failed machine is not compatible with repair then it is replaced by a new one. Assume that repair time, replacement time, reboot time, and refreshment time follow exponential distributions, whereas distribution of unit failure time, technician refreshment request time, inspection time, repair time, and reboot delay time are used with different probability density functions. The reliability measures of the PLC machines are derived with the help of graphs.
