A Multilayer Encryption Scheme Using Vigenère Cipher and Chaotic Maps

Images are widely used for information transfer across multimedia networks, where securing this data against unauthorized access remains a critical issue in cryptography. Image encryption serves as a method to protect image information from various attacks. In this study, we propose an encryption approach that combines the Vigenère cipher, Henon map, two-dimensional Arnold cat map, and two-dimensional discretized Baker map to secure image data. The encryption process begins by applying the Vigenère cipher to the original image, utilizing a matrix key generated through the Henon map. Next, the partially encrypted image undergoes transformation via the Arnold cat map. Subsequently, the Baker map is employed to enhance confusion and diffusion among image pixels. Security and quality analyses of the numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed encryption technique. Additionally, it is shown that this method outperforms certain existing schemes, providing improved resistance against differential and statistical attacks.
