<p>Urbanization can act as a filtering process, favoring species tolerant to disturbed environments, which often results in decreased biodiversity. Therefore, the surrounding forests can act as a species source and play an important role in the floristic diversity, such as epiphytes in urban areas. Herein, we evaluated the community of epiphytes on <i>Platanus</i> × <i>acerifolia</i> occurring within 4&#xa0;km of the public roadways of Campos do Jordão, the highest city in Brazil, located at approximately 1640&#xa0;m.a.s.l. and surrounded by a dense rainforest (DRF) and mixed ombrophilous forest (MOF) covering. We tested the following hypotheses: (1) the community presents species from the surrounding forest fragments; (2) there is a higher frequency of species often recorded in urban environments, as a result of their adaptation to disturbed habitats; (3) there is a great number of accidental epiphytes due to the anthropic disturbance. We sampled 113 trees and found 46 species of epiphytes, of which 20 were accidental. Among the species identified to the specific level, only one was not previously recorded in the forest fragments of the region. The epiphyte community was compositionally more similar to the surrounding MOF—with which it shared similar climate (high moisture and low temperature)—than to other urban areas from the southeastern and southern regions of Brazil and Argentina. The most frequent epiphytes <i>Pleopeltis pleopeltidis</i>, <i>P. hirsutissima</i>, and <i>P. macrocarpa</i> are not the most common in several urban areas. Both qualitative and quantitative results suggest a relevant contribution of the surrounding forest fragments and climate particularities to the diversity of epiphytes occurring in this urban area.</p>
