<p>Oak-dominated forests in the Garhwal Himalaya region of India provide essential provisioning services such as fuel and fodder to local communities, supporting their livelihoods. However, the relationship between forest size and the extent of these provisioning services remains poorly understood. This study aims to address this knowledge gap by assessing the provisioning services of fuel and fodder derived from oak-dominated forests of varying sizes in the region. The research question focuses on whether variations in fuel and fodder provisioning services exist based on forest size, and the hypothesis suggests that larger forests will exhibit higher levels of these services due to greater biodiversity and biomass resources. This study explored forest resource-use patterns to understand the villager’s dependency on forests in three different sized oak forest. Per capita fuel wood consumption decreased with increasing family size. Oak leaf fodder constitutes major part of livestock throughout the year. Of the total accessible fuelwood and fodder biomass, only 11.96% was extracted annually from reserve forest (RF), which is not sustainable in long term. We found that small-sized oak forests provide higher per-unit biomass stocks of fuel wood and foliage. However, larger forests provided more significant overall flow of provisioning services per area. Family size influenced per capita fuel wood consumption, while livestock populations affected fodder consumption. The findings underscore the importance of large oak forests in sustaining provisioning services and highlight the need for sustainable management strategies to balance local resource needs with conservation efforts in the Garhwal Himalaya.</p>
