<p>The selective extraction of copper from ammonia-ammonium sulphate solutions using a combination of LIX 84-I and TBP extractants, a less costly additive extractant neutral in nature for copper recovery, was examined. The selective extraction process involves the separation of copper from other metal ions present in the solution, which is vital for obtaining high-purity copper solutions. The study focused on determining crucial parameters that influence the efficiency of the extraction process, including LIX 84-I and TBP concentration, solution pH, extraction time, temperature, and stripping agent. At operational conditions of 0.25 mol/L LIX 84-I + 0.25 mol/L TBP, an aqueous/organic (A/O) phase ratio of 1:1, 27 ± 0.2 °C, and pH of 8, approximately 97.40% of the copper was selectively extracted within 5&#xa0;min. A remarkable 99.7% copper stripping efficiency was achieved using a sulphuric acid solution with a concentration of 0.15 mol/L. Also, a schematic flow diagram summarizing the selective extraction of copper at optimal conditions is presented. The antagonistic extraction system consisting of the oxime-based extractant LIX 84-I and the organophosphorus extractant TBP demonstrated in this study holds promise for a sustainable metal separation process.</p>
