摘要

The use of vulcanised rubber as a vibration isolator is well known in the automotive industry. The continuous improvements in road surfaces, the recent trend towards electric vehicles (EV) as well as the increased customer requirements for good ride comfort and Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) performance has prompted the development of new rubber compounds. In this article, we review the recent developments in rubber compounds that address the need to improve vehicle level ride comfort as well as NVH. Later, we share the results of an investigation that involved producing bushings with specific rubber chemistries and testing their effect at vehicle level. The results confirmed the potential benefits of applying low-hardening and high-damping rubber compounds in select positions to deliver an optimised ride comfort and NVH performance at vehicle level. We also share component level results pertaining to degradation and durability. The high-damping rubber compound showed a higher level of internal heating initially. This phenomenon however did not have an adverse effect on component level durability.
