<p>In this paper, we will review the latest technological advances aimed at the accurate and rapid diagnosis of bloodstream infections (BSIs). We will start by highlighting the severity of BSIs and the limitations of conventional blood culture-based diagnostics, and introduce sample preparation technologies for isolating and concentrating bacteria from blood that have been developed to address those challenges. Next, we will review the latest detection and identification technologies enabling rapid and precise detection of bacteria and antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST). Finally, we will discuss the future direction of diagnostic systems for BSIs and their clinical applicability.</p> Graphical abstract <p></p>
