<p>The rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market has recently experienced stagnation due to the chasm and safety concerns following incidents such as the Cheongna EV fire. To restore consumer trust in EVs, it is essential to evaluate and transparently disclose vehicle quality from a consumer perspective. To this end, we analyzed the quality of electric vehicles and internal combustion engine vehicles from the consumer perspective based on data from ConsumerInsight’s Annual Automotive Syndicated Study, conducted since 2001. Over the past five years, the overall vehicle quality has been improving in terms of vehicle appeal, quality satisfaction, and problem experience rate. However, as the EV market remains in its early stages, they have a higher problem experience rate and lower quality than internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV). The biggest problems with EVs are related to “electrical equipment/accessories,” contrasting with the “noise and abnormal sound” issues frequently reported in ICEVs. It remains to be seen whether the decline in EV purchase intent will end in the short term or continue for a long time, and it is necessary to establish and improve standards for consumer confidence in the underlying quality of EVs.</p> Graphical abstract <p></p>
