Effect of Water Hyacinth Organic Fertilizer Supplemented with Talaromyces flavus Bodhi001 on Growth and Yield Components of Rice Under Normal Soil and Saline-Alkaline soil Conditions

This study aimed to develop water hyacinth organic fertilizers supplemented with Talaromyces flavus Bodhi001 (HO-T) and Neosartorya fischeri Bodhi004 (HO-N) to enhance the growth and yield of the KDML105 rice cultivar under normal soil conditions. The most effective formulation was subsequently evaluated under saline-alkaline conditions. Pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of water hyacinth composts supplemented with antagonistic fungi on rice growth and yield components at varying application rates under normal soil and stress conditions (50 mM Na+, pH 8.0). HO-T contained higher levels of total nitrogen (1.67%), phosphorus (1.57%), potassium (0.87%), and organic matter (36.14%) than HO-N (0.98%, 0.57%, 0.67%, 32.72%) and non-fungal-supplemented compost (HO; 0.70%, 0.32%, 0.42%, 29.82%). Application of 500 g/pot HO-T enhanced plant height, tiller number, panicle number, and grain number compared with 500 g HO, 100 and 300 g HO-T, and HO-N treatments (100 g, 300 g, and 500 g). In contrast, 500 g HO-N produced greater panicle length than the other treatments. Both HO-T (24.69 g) and HO-N (24.91 g) achieved 1,000-grain weights comparable to chemical fertilizer (24.88 g). Under saline–alkaline stress, the most effective HO-T, which was rich in nutrients and organic matter, maintained rice performance at higher application rates, although the overall tiller number (3–31%), panicle number (30–49%), and grain yield (16–59%) reduced relative to the controls. These results highlight the potential of applying a water hyacinth organic fertilizer supplemented with Talaromyces flavus Bodhi001 to enhance rice productivity and sustain yield even in stress-prone environments.
