<p>Though iodine (I) is considered a non-essential element for plants, it induces positive responses in their growth and metabolism, thereby it can be considered a biostimulant. In addition to this, iodine is essential for humans, which is why it is important to consider its presence in plant nutrition. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of foliar application of potassium iodide (KI) on the biomass, bioactive compounds, and nutritional profile of lettuce seedlings. The results show that KI concentrations (50 and 150&#xa0;µM) increased fresh root biomass. The treatment with 100&#xa0;µM of KI increased the concentration of chlorophylls and carotenoids compared to the control. Carbohydrate presence and antioxidant capacity were not modified with the application of KI compared to the control; however, concentrations of 50 and 150&#xa0;µM of KI decreased the accumulation of anthocyanins. The nutritional profile shows increase in potassium (P), iron (Fe), and K with KI applications. The concentrations increased in the lettuce seedlings as the application concentration increased to 150&#xa0;µM. The use of KI is a viable option to improve physiological and biochemical processes in agricultural plants, which may improve photosynthetic activity and nutritional status. This study demonstrates that iodine application in the form of potassium iodide positively affects root biomass, photosynthetic pigments, and nutrient accumulation in lettuce seedlings. These findings underscore the potential of iodine as a biostimulant in agricultural practices. Future research should investigate the broader implications of these findings in field conditions and their relevance to sustainable agricultural management and policy development.</p>
