First report of Pimelocerus hylobioides damaging Chukrasia tabularis trees in Vietnam
摘要
Chukrasia tabularis A. Juss (Meliaceae) is an important plantation tree in Vietnam and is grown for its high quality wood. However, damage caused by a weevil species is widespread and poses a potential threat to C. tabularis plantations. This study aimed to identify the pest and determine its damage to C. tabularis trees in plantations in Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, Vietnam. The results showed that the weevil infesting C. tabularis trees in Vietnam is Pimelocerus hylobioides Desbrochers, 1891 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). This pest mainly attacked > 10-year-old trees with damage incidence and damage severity of 15–18% and 12–14%, respectively. Further monitoring of the pest is required for effective management of this weevil in the future.
