<p>The Butterfly fauna in the Haryana region is not well documented, despite its great diversity, abundance and importance to biodiversity and ecosystem services. Although protected areas were explored to a certain level but systematic study are lacking outside the protected areas of the Haryana. Therefore, we aimed to generate a baseline data of butterfly diversity of District Kurukshetra, Haryana. Kurukshetra occupies an area of 1530.00&#xa0;km² having four Sub Divisions, Thanesar, Pehowa, Shahbad and Ladwa. Using the Pollard walk method and Random Sampling Method, monthly field visits were conducted for the periodic Butterfly survey in the selected study sites from June, 2023 to May, 2024. A total of 50 species of Butterfly from 38 genera, 13 sub-families and five families namely Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae, Hesperiidae and Lycaenidae were reported during the study period. Nymphalidae was the dominant family with Relative Diversity Index (RDi) value of 34 (17 species) followed by Lycaenidae (15 species), Pieridae (11 species), Papilionidae (4 species) and least abundant by Hesperiidae (3 species). Frequency of sightings reveal that 19 species were abundant, 14 were common, 13 were occasional and four species were rare in abundance status in the study area. The study also revealed the presence of five unique Singleton species. In terms of seasonality, the post-monsoon season was found with highest species richness (45) followed by summer (44), monsoon (38) and winter season (30) respectively. Monthly richness variations reported bi-annual peaks in the months of October, 2023 and April, 2024 with decline in July, 2023 and January, 2024. The study area hosts one butterfly fauna i.e. Danaid Eggfly (<i>Hypolimnas misippus</i>) which is protected under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022 under Schedule II. Study findings can be used as an important key source for better management and conservation strategies for butterfly species as their abundance indicates the well-being of an ecosystem.</p>
