<p>The fall armyworm, <i>Spodoptera frugiperda</i> Smith and the cotton leafworm, <i>S. littoralis</i> (Boisduval) (both Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) are polyphagous insect pests causing high economic yield losses to many agricultural crops. The present study aimed to study some biological parameters of <i>S. frugiperda</i> and <i>S. littoralis</i> when they were reared on four host plants: coriander, tomato, cotton and maize leaves, under laboratory conditions. The results showed that coriander was the most suitable host plant for the two pests. Where, on coriander leaves, both <i>S. frugiperda</i> and <i>S. littoralis</i> exhibited the shortest developmental period, highest fecundity, highest pupal weight, lowest larval mortality percentages, highest population percentages and highest growth indexes (larval, standardize and fitness growth indexes), in addition to the highest net reproduction rate (R<sub>o</sub>), highest finite rate of increase (exp<sub>rm</sub>) and lowest mean generation time (T). With respect to <i>S. frugiperda</i>, maize leaves ranked second of the previously mentioned characteristics, while cotton ranked second with <i>S. littoralis</i>. Tomato leaves showed the highest unhelpful characteristics of <i>S. frugiperda</i>, while maize leaves showed the same trend on <i>S. littoralis</i>. In summary, our findings indicate that coriander as the most suitable host plant for <i>S. frugiperda</i> and <i>S. littoralis</i>, with the shortest developmental period, highest fecundity, and lowest larval mortality.</p>
