<p>Coconut (<i>Cocos nucifera</i> L.) is an important plantation crop predominantly grown in tropical islands and coastal lines. The changing climatic conditions in the coconut ecosystem favored distribution of native and invasive pests. We reported that the occurrence of mango mealybug, <i>Rastrococcus iceryoides</i> (Green) infesting on coconut (<i>Cocos nucifera</i> L. (F. Arecaceae) from Kerala, India for the first time on Chowghat Orange Dwarf (COD) cultivars. Both nymphs and adults were found sucking the plant sap from the button nuts, developing tender nuts and rachillae of coconut. Subsequently, the size of the affected nuts became reduced and malformed. A detailed morphological examination and molecular characterization using the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (<i>COI</i>) gene confirmed the identity of the pest as <i>R. iceryoides</i>. Furthermore, the field infestation of <i>R. iceryoides</i> on tender coconut was ranged from 4.65 to 8.80 percent. The findings of this study highlight the need for further research on the population dynamics, damage potential and management strategies before it becomes epidemic pest in coconut ecosystem.</p>
