摘要

Host plant resistance is an important component of integrated pest management of the broad mite, Polyphagotarsonemus latus (Banks) in chilli. The mean mite population and leaf curl index of five selected entries viz., K1, K2, Ranga, TNAU Hybrid CO1 and CO1 were recorded under field conditions and further pot culture studies were also carried out. Various biophysical and biochemical characters were studied on five varieties/entries of chilli against P. latus. The minimum mean mite population was recorded in the resistant variety K2 (1.13 nos./leaf) and the maximum population was observed in the susceptible variety K1 (7.87 nos./leaf). Carbohydrate content in healthy leaves ranged from 29.75 (K1) to 41.00 mg/g (K2) and in infested leaves it ranged between 21.79 (K1) and 37.65 mg/g (K2). The reducing sugars in healthy plants varied between 2.42 mg/g (K2) and 4.12 mg/g (K1) whereas in infested leaves it ranged from 2.58 mg/g (K2) to 4.83 mg/g (K1). The mite-infested plants had minimum protein content in the resistant variety K2 (7.18 mg/g) as compared with healthy plants (7.46 mg/g). Total free amino acids content in the healthy leaves was highest in the susceptible variety K1 (3.23 mg/g) and lesser in the resistant variety K2 (0.92 mg/g) whereas in infested leaves it varied between 1.23 (K2) and 3.65 mg/g (K1). The phenol and tannin content were higher in the infested leaves as compared with healthy leaves. Nitrogen content was maximum in the healthy leaves as compared with the infested leaves.
