Background <p>In recent years, the diagnosis and monitoring of Parkinson’s Disease by gait analysis has gained prominence due to its potential to associate the neurodegenerative condition with motor dysfunctions. By evaluating the gait parameters, researchers can track the progression of the condition and establish personalized treatment and intervention options depending on the severity of the disease. This comprehensive review seeks to investigate the growth of human movement analysis using wearable and non-wearable sensor technologies to associate gait impairments with Parkinson’s Disease. The article is categorized into sections to discuss the various gait impairments associated with Parkinson's disease. Several wearable and non-wearable sensor techniques are employed to study the motor symptoms in detail, as well as develop numerous intervention methods to halt the progression of the disease. Various wearable and non-wearable sensor devices are employed to analyze and understand the gait patterns of patients to diagnose and monitor Parkinson's disease.</p> Method <p>The review was conducted using multiple databases including PubMed, Scopus, Springer, IEEE, and ScienceDirect. The publication period included studies from 2000 to 2025. Relevant keywords were applied, and articles were screened and filtered through multiple stages to identify those most relevant to the research subject.</p> Findings <p>This paper illustrates a thorough review of the motor symptoms present in patients with Parkinson's disease, with a specific focus on how these symptoms are reflected in and correlated with gait abnormalities. For instance, bradykinesia and rigidity commonly result in reduced walking speed and stride length, while freezing of gait episodes are closely associated with disrupted step initiation and increased double support time. By analysing these gait characteristics, researchers can effectively quantify symptom severity and progression. Certain sensor-based technologies are utilized to provide researchers insight into gait parameters to develop various intervention methods. Furthermore, several ongoing advancements and upcoming techniques are discussed to improve the neurodegenerative disorder.</p> Interpretation <p>The existing sensor-based techniques to measure gait abnormalities are reviewed to study motor dysfunctions in patients with PD. While considerable research has been undertaken in this domain to explore novel methods that have shown promise, further evidence of their safety is still required.</p>
