Zum Stand der deutschen Friedensbewegung: ein Mapping friedenspolitischer Organisationen in Deutschland
摘要
Although public debates around war and peace are increasing, there is still little systematic empirical knowledge about the current state of the peace movement. This article presents the results of a large-scale mapping of groups advocating for peace in Germany. Based on systematic online research and telephone surveys of peace groups, data were collected on the thematic focus, age, organizational forms, levels of activity, and practices of 380 active peace groups. The mapping reveals both continuities within the peace movement—most notably its strong local embeddedness and thematic diversity—and significant changes. Contrary to the widespread public perception of a declining peace movement, the findings show that a large number of peace groups in Germany remain active. New groups continue to emerge, although they are less closely connected to the movement’s traditional organizational structures. Further changes include a declining level of engagement by trade unions and established left-wing parties on peace-related issues, as well as increasing tensions with conspiracy-oriented and partly far-right actors, who have increasingly appropriated the issue of peace. Overall, the findings suggest that the composition of the peace movement is changing and that internal conflicts may intensify in the future.
