Impact of gamma irradiation on flower morphology and growth traits in Gladiolus hybrida L.
摘要
The present experiment was conducted at Assam agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam, to study the effect of gamma ray induced mutation in gladiolus (Gladiolus gradiflorus L.). For this experiment, four genotypes i.e. Red Candiman, Pasibica Beauty, Summer Sunshine and Red Majesty were treated with six different doses of gamma rays and 13 characters were observed. The design of the experiment was Factorial randomized block design. The character spike length, no. of spike per plant exhibited highest PCV, GCV in M1V1 generation. Plant height, no. of spikes exhibited highest PCV, GCV in M1V2 generation. Heritability with genetic advance was found to be high in vase life, days to sprouting, spike length, rachis length and no. of floret per spike in M1V1 generation. In M1V2 generation, high heritability was recorded for days to sprouting, spike length, vase life, days to spike initiation and breadth of leaf. Red Majesty was found to be the best performed variety considering the breadth of leaf, no. of floret per spike, length of floret, breadth of floret, vase life, no. of spike per plant followed by Red Candiman, Pasibica Beauty. This study shows that there is significant scope to develop novel mutants in gladiolus through gamma rays induced mutation.
